Retail and Logistics

With anywhere in the entire world only a simple phone call away, logistics companies are changing and shifting the way they deal and handle logistics services and the shipping of goods around the world.

IVR systems are finding a new market in assisting the logistics industry in cutting costs of transporting goods, whilst achieving increased efficiency.

Drivers on the road might face some difficulties or delays. IVR can help by allowing the driver to dial into the system and to report his situation at any point in time. The dispatching network would then be alerted to the situation to take corrective action.

Another situation is when a caller dials into the IVR system of a warehouse to inquire about certain SKUs. An immediate voice response can be returned, saving on specialized personnel to staff this chair. Further, this functionality is fully automated and 24 hours. The applications are limited only to imagination. See below for more details on such applications.

Retail Application examples:

  • On the Road Reporting: A driver can call into an IVR system at any time to report. His report can include down time, destination reached, and so on. This is updated into a special log, which can be flashed to a dispatcher through a dialout (voice), pager, or fax, or even routed to an auto dispatcher for immediate data integration and response.
  • AutoDial (voice) can place PO or ASN with warehouses to prepare for a shipment. This allows for immediate confirmation or rejection of PO or ASN, on a 24 hour basis.
  • Warehouse Personnel: can report work updates through the IVR without the need to waste time logging in papers at the base station.
  • Assignment handling and dispatching: Drivers and warehouse operators can get the next assignment rapidly and at a lower ongoing cost than a staff-based dispatching unit, through IVR voice, in conjunction with a dispatching software.
