Technical Details

The Internet connectivity routines (require Internet Explorer 5 or later) enable the application to connect to Internet resources, such as http and email servers, to get data and use them during a call. The Internet connectivity routines do not require any special configurations. It uses Internet Explorer’s configurations such as data caching and proxy servers. There are two sets of routines:

  • IVR HTTP Routines: include a function that downloads a web page or a file using http or https (http using Secure Socket Layer), and a function that parses the page received to get specific data from that page. IVR Http examples:

  • Speaking Stock Prices: done by downloading the page that contains the stock price then parsing the page to get the current price then speaking the price.

  • Credit Card Payments: done by sending a credit card payment request through https. The result will be the confirmation page that can be parsed in order to get the payment confirmation data.

  • IVR Email Routines: Routines that log on during a call to SMTP or POP3 servers in order to send and receive emails. SMTP functions include connecting to an SMTP server and sending an email. POP3 functions include connecting to a POP3 server, querying messages info and downloading messages. IVR Email Examples:

  • Email Warning: Sending an Email warning to the IVR system administrator when an error occurs such as a database connection error.

  • Email and Voicemail Integration: such as checking email using text-to-speech functions.
